Multiple Intelligence Test for incoming freshmen of PEHS

By Roxette Latonio

Around one hundred sixty students have taken the online Multiple Intelligence Test from June 7 - 11, 2010 at the (PEHS) Punta Engano High School.

Multiple Intelligence (MI) is Howard Gardner’s psychological theory about people and their different types of intelligences.

Geralyn Bacolod , an incoming freshman said, “Most of the items are difficult for me to answer but there are also few items that are easy enough to understand. However, this test is a big help for me because, I know now which intelligences I am capable with.”

Test Coordinator Marie Rose Dichos said , “ We just want to know what are the learning styles of each of the incoming high school students.”

“I believe it’s better for the teachers to get an idea on how to deal with the different students based on the level of their multiple intelligences. So that we can adjust our teaching strategies.” she added.

“Knowing your learning style will help you develop coping strategies to compensate for your weaknesses and capitalize on your strengths. MI is based on the belief that we all possess at least eight unique intelligences through which we are able to learn/teach new information.”Dichos said.

There are about eight Learning Styles/Intelligences in the test. These are the verbal/linguistic, logical/mathematical, visual/spatial, bodily/kinestethic , musical, intrapersonal, interpersonal and naturalistic.

Linguistic intelligence are naturally good with writing, speaking and memorization. People with logical intelligences are driven by logical and reasoning, Musical are musically gifted. Intrapersonal are adept at looking inward. Interpersonal are good with the people and thrive in social interactions. Visual intelligence are good at remembering images and aware of surroundings. Kinestethic love movement, have good motor skills and aware of their bodies and the naturalistic intelligence has a sensitivity to and appreciation of nature.

Each person possesses and has capacities in all eight intelligences according to the theory of Howard Gardner.
