Tatoy Shines in Radyoke Survival Challenge

Rachel Tatoy captured the 4th place on the Radyoke Survival Challenge 2009 at the SM Entertainment Plaza on October 22, 2009.

Tatoy belted the song “To Love You More” at the SM mall which sent the crowd roaring.

“I was so nervous, but I have given my best,” said Tatoy.

One of the judges even offered a singing contract for the new diva.

Tatoy emerges as the weekly winner last October 10, 2009 at the contested DYAR search for Radyoke Survival Challenge 2009.

Tatoy also made it to the Top 13 for the “Halad Awit sa Birhen” song writing contest. The young diva will sing “Atong Kab-oton ang Kahiusahan (isip usa ka lawas ni Kristo), composed by Federico Nuñez & Errol Macoy Jr., on the grand finals on November 7, 2009 at the Virden de la Regla Shrine.

PEHS Snatch Silver in Division Collage Contest

Two PEHS students managed to grab the silver medal during the LLC Division Science Fair on Oct. 17, 2009 at Pusok Elementary School.

Khim Carlo Pagobo & Julibee Pagobo, both are junior students, received the silver medal during the collage making contest, which is participated by the different secondary schools in the division of Lapu-lapu City.

“Our design is very unique, we used a 3D effect in our collage,” said Khim Carlo Pagobo.

Four PEHS students also managed to reach the top ten in the division science quiz contest: Sanah Rose Mae Mahusay (1st yr), 9th place; Errol Macoy Jr. (2nd yr), 10th place; Roxette Latonio (3rd yr), 5th place & Stephen Clint Cañamo (4th yr), 10th place.

Honey Pearl Cañamo also managed to secure the 4th place in the Sci-Dama contest.

Arnis Team seize gold in 2009 City Palaro

PEHS Arnis Team managed to capture eleven gold medals & one silver medal during the 2009 City Palaro at Mactan Air Base Elementary School on Oct. 2 & 3, 2009.

Marjun Eyas, PEHS team captain, said “In the Anyo Team Single Stick competition (boys & girls) PEHS captured the first place. Three gold medals & one silver medal are awarded to the team in Anyo Individual Single & Double Stick.”

In the Labanan Category, the PEHS team also won two gold medals.

Nur Ismael & Eric Yayon, both are members of the Unit 3 Basketball Team, also won the gold medal.

Errol Macoy, Jr. is also awarded the bronze medal in Chess. Marimar Sumalinog managed to grab the third place in the 1500 meter ran. Webster Villaver clinches the bronze medal in the triple long jump competition.

The following students are members of the PEHS Anyo Team: John Niño Catalonia, Mark Vincent Mahusay, Kierstein Mae Pareja & Janice Nuñez.

Marjun Eyas (Pin weight) & Jannien Amado (Bantam weight) will join the Lapu-lapu City Division Team in the Central Visayas Athletic Association competition this year.

Mahusay, Talingting capture bronze in STEP contest

PEHS students managed to capture two bronze medals in the Dish Gardening & Hair Trimming & Make-up contest during the Student Technologists & Entrepreneurs of the Philippines (STEP) Competition in Babag National High School on October 14, 2009.

“The competition is very competitive, my opponents spent three thousand pesos for their dish garden but they did not make it to the top three,”said Ganie Talingting.

Ganie Talingting is awarded the bronze medal for his dish garden “Dragon Shell”. One of the teachers who witnessed the said event even offered to buy his dish garden.

Marlou “The Magician” Mahusay, a junior student, also captured the bronze medal in the Hair Trimming & Make-up competition.

According to Adonis Pagobo, the PEHS Hair Trimming & Make-up consultant , “Marlou’s work is unique & I am proud of his achievement.”

Webster Villaver & Roxette Latonio also represented the school in the Net Weaving & Bookkeeping Using MS Excel contest.

STEP aims to secure a hopeful and significant place in the world for pupils and students by enhancing technical and entrepreneurial skills while developing leadership potentials and building desirable work values and character.

Adapting to diverse science culture for Development

Science Month is a time to highlight the role science and technology play in protecting human health and the environment and reinforce the importance of scientific integrity.
Everyone can play a part. We must encourage young people to explore careers in science, mathematics, and engineering. The possibilities are endless.

Science Month is a chance to further our mission at by showing how important science is in our everyday work. We need to encourage people from all walks of life to rediscover their natural curiosity about the world around them by asking why – a simple question that is at the heart of science.

“Adapting to diverse science culture for development” is a new name that takes on a broader interpretation of "science" to cover scientific research and discovery, as well as the applications of scientific knowledge, engineering and technological innovation.
Millions have seen an apple fall. But Sir Isaac Newton was one of the first to ask “why?”, leading to the theory of gravity.

Today, Science is borderless and multi-disciplinary. Through technology we are able to connect and share scientific knowledge and exchange ideas with the World. Science has indeed taken on a substantial role in our society and the world; impacting the way we live, work and play now and in the future.

We can spark a sense of excitement of Filipinos of every age and from every part of the nation. This includes connecting with the public through blogs, podcasts and demonstrations of the importance of sustainability in our communities, and encouraging our youth to be more involved in science.

Pursuing new knowledge and innovation is the best path toward economic prosperity and the solution to persistent societal problems, from energy security to climate change, and from poverty to disease. Our ability to address the most pressing needs of our times depends upon our resolve to pursue a future shaped by scientific vision and leadership.

As for broader societal dimensions, I turn to the famous seventeenth century Japanese swordsman, Miyamoto Musashi, to express this perspective. He once wrote, "In strategy it is important to see distant things as if they were close, and to take a distanced view of close things ..."

Science and technology create the paths by which we realize those aspirations for all of the world's citizens. That puts us all together in the same boat—steering for the future, with all its uncertainties and its promises.

AMADO CLINCHES BRONZE IN REGIONAL ARNIS TOURNEY

Jannien Amado, a junior student from Punta Engaño High School, together with two students from the Division of Lapu-lapu City is awarded the bronze medal in the Anyo Double Stick Team Category during the Central Visayas Athletic Association (CVIRAA) meet in Dumageute City on March 15 - 22, 2009.

Amado together with students from Basak Night High School and Pusok National High School impressed the judges with their unique choreography.

“It was a very tough competition. The performance of the other divisions is also very unique. But we have prevailed,” Amado said.

The Division of Lapu-lapu City also won the bronze medal in the Anyo Single Stick Team Category under the direction of Federico Nuñez, a teacher from Punta Engaño High School. In the Labanan Category, three female students from the said division also managed to capture three bronze medals.

Jannien Amado and Melissa Mahusay, both from Punta Punta Engaño High School, are members of the Division of Lapu-lapu City delegation during the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) meet.

During the City Palaro last December 2008, Amado is a member of the team that won the gold medal in the Anyo Single Stick Team Category & a silver medalist in the Labanan Category. Mahusay also won the gold medal in the Labanan category.

The CVIRAA meet is an annual multi-level national scholastic athletic competition conducted by the Department of Education and participated in by the elementary and secondary pupils / students both from public and private schools. It is an avenue that provides in-school youth opportunities to improve their physical, moral, intellectual and social well-being. Its objective is to instill and imbibe among the pupils / students the spirit of discipline, teamwork, excellence, fair play, solidarity, sportsmanship and other values inherent in sports to build a Strong Republic;
